Amidst the Destruction, There is Hope

Eight months ago, I, along with many others were witnesses to an unspeakable act of evil. In the eight months that have followed, we have also been witnesses to overwhelming goodness and miraculous deeds.

It’s hard to believe that just eight months ago, a piece of my world was destroyed by an act of terrorism. Nine months ago, I was spending my evenings enjoying swing music in the World Trade Center plaza. Today, the plaza has been replaced by a pit several stories deep. The shopping concourse where I spent my money is now a heap of debris. Before September 11th, I tried to avoid walking past construction workers. Now, they are heroes, and I go out of my way to thank them. Funny how one’s world can change so quickly.

In the eight months that have followed, we have also been witnesses to overwhelming goodness and miraculous deeds. In the middle of a mountain of debris, a rescue worker discovered the World Trade Center Cross. A group of strangers gathered to support and thank Ground Zero workers at Point Thank You. People from around the world came to help and offer whatever support they could. Friendships have been formed that will last a lifetime.
